Some Mexican Restaurants Are Serving FAKE Guacamole, As If I Needed More Trust Issues
Before I get into this, let me just say: GUAC IS LIFE. However, an abnormal heat wave is leading to an avocado shortage, which is driving up their price—and now, some restaurants are serving up FAKE guac to customers—and just writing that is almost as hard to stomach as actually eating guacamole made with anything other than avocados.
To be fair, the restaurants that have done this aren’t attempting to hide the mock guac from customers; they’re being open about the situation, explaining that their “hybrid” guacamole is a blend of avocados and zucchini. (That sounds very resourceful, but also very “ew.”) While some customers say that they can barely tell a difference from the real thing, any avocado purist will tell you: there’s no substitute for the real thing.
For now, mock guac is being served at Mexican restaurants primarily in Texas and California, so here’s hoping that it doesn’t make its way to us! *crosses fingers and toes*
