Brothers Osborne’s T.J. on Mickey Guyton: ‘She Floored Me’
Brothers Osborne’s T.J. came out as a gay man a few months ago and the country music community was overwhelmingly supportive. Now Osborne, in turn, is offering his support to Mickey Guyton, who will co-host the ACM Awards with Keith Urban on April 18. She will be the first Black woman to host the show.
T.J. told us that the country music community is becoming more diverse. “What we’re finding is just how blind we’ve been to country music fans that have been out there that never had any representation. They feel uncomfortable going to shows, they’ve always loved country music and they’re out there, lots of them.”
Osborne added, “I’ve gotten to experience this and people reaching out to me with the experience that I’ve had and we’re seeing this with people of color as well. Can you just imagine going to a country show and being the only black person in the room? That would be incredibly uncomfortable.”
T.J. gushed about Mickey’s recent performance on the Grammys. “Mickey’s performance was so good I was so proud of her, in fact I called her the next day. I just could not be more proud of her and she floored me. I could not have been more proud of her, but also to be in this genre.”
