‘Devil In Ohio’ – What’s Cody Watching?
On Friday, I finally finished up another series I’d been watching on Netflix. And that meant, I needed to find something else! Instead of asking, “What’s Cody watching?” I probably should say it’s more of what I “watched.” Because I binged the series this weekend. It’s called Devil In Ohio.
My List on Netflix
As with most things… I am a bit behind because this one came out back in September 2022. I guess I just like to give things time to see if other people like them before I waste my time. Ha! But honestly, I had added this to “My List” on Netflix a while back. I don’t remember anyone telling me about it, I think it was just a recommendation I came across in the app. Reading the description, something must have grabbed me because I added it.
Most of the things I add to “My List” are true crime related. There are a lot of “based on a true story” type shows and movies in there. But this is not one of them. This is a thriller. I don’t think I realized that at first. The description says: “After a teen girl with a strange wound is found in Amon County, Ohio, she is taken to the hospital in a nearby town and put in Dr. Suzanne Mathis’ care.” Dr. Suzanne Mathis is played by Emily Deschanel.
Devil In Ohio
This is a limited series. It was only 8 episodes, with each one being about 40-50 minutes long. And I will say, it’s definitely a thriller. There are some very strange, and some disturbing things, that happen. The girl who was found is running from a cult. And this leads to some very scary moments. Dr. Mathis winds up fostering the girl, and it causes some major chaos in her life and with her family.
The show really gripped me though. Each episode left me wanting to watch the next. There were quite a few twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting either. And I will say, the ending left me a little confused and frustrated. In my opinion, it didn’t feel like closure. It almost feels like it could set things up for another season… but with it being a limited series, I don’t think that’s happening.
Also, it’s apparently based on a book by the same name. I have added it to my list to read! It’ll be interesting to see how the book compares to the series.
Overall, I did enjoy the show. I really like Emily Deschanel… and the actress who played Mae Dodd, Madeleine Arthur, is one heck of an actress. She had some pretty dynamic emotions to portray! If you like thrillers, I’d say, it’s worth the watch! It was easy enough for me to binge watch in 2 days (some on Friday, and the last 2 episodes on Saturday). But now I’m done with it, so I’ll have to find another series to watch!
Here’s the official trailer that came out for Devil in Ohio before it was released.
