South Carolina’s Best Convenience Store Hot Dog
I was on another road trip and stopped in a few antique stores in Ridge Spring, SC, cause you never can rule out finding a great old album or even a vintage typewriter. Well, I found neither, but as I was leaving, I asked a lady where I could find a great lunch place nearby. She asked if I liked hot dogs, and I lit up! YES! I was about to discover South Carolina’s Best Convenience Store Hot Dog!
Over 4 Million Sold
She told me about a small convenience store about ten miles up the road in Batesburg, S.C. It’s called the Kwik Karry, and she said they had the best hot dogs around. So, of course, I had to go.
Half of the parking lot is paved, and half is just sand; Bamburg is in the Sandhills area. I’ve always said if the parking lot is dirt or sand, in this case, and it is full of workers eating lunch in their trucks or on the tailgate, the food has to be good.
Two Dogs, Chips, and a Diet Coke
So I order two hot dogs, grab a pack of chips and a Diet Coke, and head for my truck. The chili is great and just like my parents made years ago at our family restaurant, Gentry’s Drive-In, in Walhalla, SC. The buns were steamed perfectly, and the lady told me the weiners were the old-school Carolina Pride weiners, and it was topped with that wonderful hot dog chili. There’s a good reason why they have sold over 4 million hot dogs. These are some great hot dogs.
They also have sausage dogs, which are also supposed to be off-the-chain good, too.
The Hot Dog Man
As their Facebook page says, Kwik Karry is home of the Hot Dog Man and Jake’s Famous Boiled Peanuts. The boiled peanuts part makes me love this place even more. I’ll try them next time.
This is the best convenience store hot dog I’ve had. The sign below says it best, “this ain’t gas station food.”
How To Get There
IF YOU WANT to try this place, their address is 503 West Church Street, Batesburg-Leesville, SC. It’s 56 minutes from Augusta.
