New Study Says People Who Nap Have Bigger Brains
A new study claims that people who nap have bigger brains. Now this is science I can get behind! Naps are a part of my daily life. I wake up at 3:30 every morning for the show. Usually by Noon or 1pm I’m fading fast and a nap is definitely in order. So when I saw this headline, I was immediately interested.
In an article by The Guardian. According to a new study by “Sleep Health”, if you take naps, you’ll have a bigger brain. This study said that as we get older our brains shrink, but naps can help that. Taking a short nap when you feel like you need it helps with brain health. The study says that a 15 minute nap is long enough. Well as a professional napper, I’m going to say that 15 minutes is just enough to tick me off.
We’ll agree to disagree on the length of the nap, but lets move on. Researchers looked at DNA samples and brain scans of more than 35,000 people between 40 and 70 years old. And they found a noticable difference between nappers and non-nappers. The study showed that the brains of people who nap age more slowly. However its not clear if its because of the naps or some other reason. I’m no scientist, but I’m going to say its the naps. I always feel better when I nap.
The study did warn against too many naps, they said it can be harmful. I’ll speak just for myself here. Usually 45 minutes to an hour is the perfect nap for me. For you it might be longer or shorter, but thats the perfect amount of time for me.
