This area is best known for Lake Oconee, but I decided to check out the downtown area, and I’m glad I did. Day Trip: Augusta to Greensboro, GA – 1HR 8Min. An easy drive on I-20, and you’ll discover a very cool historic town. They were definitely ready for the 4th of July weekend; all decked out in American flags.
Antiques And Buttermilk Pie
You’ll find a few antique stores and small art galleries with regional artists, like the Chicken Man, who grew up in Edgefield, SC. Also, restaurants throughout the downtown area include a must-stop, the Yesterday Cafe, known for its buttermilk pie.
Puttin’ On The Ritz
Lake Oconee’s Hometown is what many call Greensboro, and Lake Oconee is one of the most popular lakes in the Southeast. The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee, is a trendy place to stay while in the area. Many lake activities to enjoy while you’re there, as well as golf and the spa at the Ritz Carlton.
If You Go
Greensboro is halfway between Augusta and Atlanta, just off I-20. Things you must do…..try the buttermilk pie at Yesterday’s Cafe downtown. Also, check out the Old Gaol, the oldest jail in the state.
