Corey Kent [00:00:00] Hey, man, this is Corey Kent.
Dub [00:00:01] Dude, wait a minute. You mean to tell me that the guy that had one of the biggest songs of the year “Wild As Her”? Corey Kent, you’re playing our Kicks 99 Guitar Pull this year.
Corey Kent [00:00:10] Come on. You better believe it, man.
Dub [00:00:13] We are so excited. So let me, Corey, let me just give you a little, little backstory here. So this is the 24th annual Kicks 99 Guitar Pull. Okay, so over the years, we’ve we’ve had some artists who were new artists that had, you know, a big hit song, and they were coming in to Guitar Pull. But we’ve had guys, you know, guys like Eric Church, you know, guys like Blake Shelton, guys like, you know, the guy that you’ve been on the road with all year, Jason Aldean. So you’re in some pretty good company here, brother.
Corey Kent [00:00:43] Man, I’m excited. Yeah, I’ve heard of those guys before.
Dub [00:00:46] Yeah. I mean, I feel like a lot of them are doing okay, right?
Corey Kent [00:00:50] Yeah. Hey, you know, if this is any indication of the of the trajectory, I’m in, I’m in good company.
Dub [00:00:55] 100%. Man. So speaking of Jason Aldean, you’ve been out on the Highway Desperado tour with Jason and with Mitchell Tenpenny. Let’s talk about that, man, How how cool is your summer been so far?
Corey Kent [00:01:04] Man, it’s been great. I’m actually golfing with Mitchell right now. And and, you know, very first day of the tour, I had never met Jason. And the way that it came about was he just heard our song on the radio and was like, I want whoever that is on tour with us. And so night one of the tour is when we met after the show and he’s like, Man, you guys are awesome. Why don’t you come hang out after? And so we went and made a drink and sat around and talked for a few hours and he’s like, What are you doing tomorrow morning? It’s like, I’m on your tour, man. You tell me what I’m doing. Why don’t you to go golfing with us? It’s like, All right, I got to figure out this golf game. And so it’s been great, man. Just how how inviting and welcoming everybody’s been to us, you know, because my band and crew, everybody and our whole band and crews from Oklahoma and we’re still based out of there. So, you know, we’re we’re making new friends and we’re not like part of the normal Nashville crew, I don’t think. And so we’re kind of the new kids on the block a little bit, but everybody’s been so welcoming to us and it’s been it’s been a dream, man. It’s been such an amazing thing. And the crowds are showing up early, man. It’s like 60, 70% full by the time we go on usually. So we’re getting just, you know, tens of thousands of people hearing our music, which is a new thing for us, it’s been amazing.
Dub [00:02:16] Well, hey, I mean, you had a huge song. You’ve had a huge song, of course, with “Wild As Her” went number one, you got a lot of this this album, man, that you released earlier this year is just incredible. So I know that “Wild As Her” ain’t gonna be the last song that we’re hearing on the radio from Corey Kent. But what I want to know is, you know, you play golf with Jason Aldean, and I know that you got to be careful here because he is you are on his tour. But to be honest, man, how’s Jason on the golf course?
Corey Kent [00:02:42] Well, let’s just say this. He beat me, okay? He beat me.
Dub [00:02:45] All right. There we go.
Corey Kent [00:02:46] Yeah. No, no, he’s he’s he’s a good golfer, man. He knows what he’s doing, and he’s giving me tips all day. And. Yeah, no, he. I feel like, you know, the day that we played, we, we had, we had not enough beers. And so that probably factored in. That was actually the day that he had a heat stroke. So that was kind of ironic, man, that we we were just crushing water and Gatorade all day trying to be responsible in the front end of the tour. The heat still got to us. So but yeah, next time, just more beer, better scores.
Dub [00:03:15] You know what, I think there’s a T-shirt in that somewhere. More beer equals better scores.
Corey Kent [00:03:19] Yeah, Yeah. Lower, lower shot.
Cody [00:03:21] So, Corey, I was looking at your Instagram and it looks like pizza night at the Corey Kent house is a pretty big deal. It’s something you don’t want to miss out on.
Corey Kent [00:03:30] So my wife, she’s Italian. Her whole family immigrated from Italy and we just went over there and visited recently some of her family over there and went to a wedding and we came back with some new new ideas for for pizza. So there’s this good little Italian spot down the road that gives you like the raw the raw dough. And then we got it. We bought a little pizza oven. So but it really helps when you marry an Italian that helps how the pizzas turn out. You know what I mean?
Dub [00:03:55] Oh, dude, 100%.
Corey Kent [00:03:56] We got a little garden going on in the backyard, so we went and picked some of the the fresh, you know, veggies and herbs and stuff and, you know, trying to be all domestic, like every now and then.
Cody [00:04:06] So, Corey, that leads us to our next question. We’ve talked about it on the show before. What is something that should never, ever go on pizza?
Corey Kent [00:04:15] Oh, I think personally, I think olives should never go on pizza.
Dub [00:04:19] Like who thought of putting up who thought of putting olives on a pizza, Right? Like they go, no, they go in martinis and that’s about it.
Corey Kent [00:04:26] I don’t even. Yeah. And I’m like, hey, take the olive out of my martini. I don’t even like them there. It’s like, I’m a very non-picky eater, but olives are one of like three things that I just can’t stand, so I don’t put them on my pizza.
Dub [00:04:40] I’m with ya. Now how, how do… What’s your stance on pineapple? On pizza?
Corey Kent [00:04:43] Well, you’re asking the wrong guy because pineapple is my favorite fruit. So I mean, you’re asking the wrong dude.
Dub [00:04:50] It’s totally it’s totally fine. Right? Pineapple is totally fine on pizza.
Corey Kent [00:04:54] It’s fine. Yeah. And just everybody needs to calm down about pineapple.
Dub [00:04:58] Dude. I’m like, Look, man, I understand. I understand some people aren’t aren’t turned on by hot fruit. I personally think it’s okay. So me and Corey Kent are down with pineapple on pizza.
Corey Kent [00:05:08] Yeah, Yeah, it’s fine. I’m going to move to Hawaii someday. You got to be down with the pineapple.
Dub [00:05:12] Corey, we cannot wait, man, to see you on stage at Kicks 99’s Guitar Pull coming up November the 14th. James Brown Arena. It is going to be a blast. And I promise you, you and I, I’ll check in with you before you go on stage. And then when you walk offstage and I promise you, you’re going to look at me and say, that was absolutely incredible.
Corey Kent [00:05:30] Man, I really can’t wait. There’s a lot of events, a lot of cool things that we get to play. But this is this is one circled on my calendar it’s something I’m really looking forward to. So thank you all for having me. And I’ll see you out there. And I’m stoked to be there.
