South Carolina is a great state to live in. For the most part, housing is pretty reasonable and it has a great coast and beautiful mountains. First, the things I love about the state of South Carolina. The weather. Sure, it gets hot, and it can get cold, and even have an ice storm or two occasionally. But, it’s still a comfortable state to live in. Southern Charm At It’s Best in these cities in South Carolina.

We have some really great foodie areas, too, like Charleston and Greenville. Plus, there is great seafood on the Carolina coast from Cherry Grove, SC, south to Murrells Inlet. I was in Folly Beach one summer and had shrimp at a local restaurant and commented to my waitress how great the shrimp was. She said, “It was swimming a few hours ago”. Now, that’s fresh!
Greenville, SC
This city has gone through a major change in the last 25 years. Downtown is one of the best downtowns in America. Restaurants, bars, and a few Speak Easys are in the mix, too. A couple of my favorites are Yee Haw Brewery, and, to be honest, it would be hard to pick a favorite restaurant because there are so many great ones.
It’s just about time now to head to the mountains to see the fall colors, and that’s a beautiful road trip, so, you might as well cross over to North Carolina and hit the Blue Ridge Parkway to snap a few good pictures.
Make sure you check out the Falls At Reedy River while there, too.
Beaufort, SC
Beaufort is a beautiful historic city on the water and minutes away from an Augusta favorite, Fripp Island, SC. You can spend an entire day just discovering old historic homes, downtown and walking along the waterfront lined with restaurants and a few great bars. Just over the bridge, the one Tom Hanks ran across in Forrest Gump, you’ll find Fripp Island and Huntington State Park.
Columbia, SC
This is South Carolina’s State Capitol. Talk about a city with history! This is it. Columbia was founded in 1786, and today, along with being the capital, it is also a great place to explore. The capitol and the grounds around it are beautiful, and the downtown area has so much to do. There are plenty of restaurants and unique stores, and this city, like all the others on this list, is very walkable. Check out the Soda City Market, downtown. It is open every Saturday, year-round 9 AM to 1 PM.
Charleston, SC
We can talk about Charleston all day long. This city is known all over the world for its beauty and history. The city is unbelievably beautiful and is known for the best restaurants in America. Also, it’s close to area beaches, with my favorite being Folly Beach. Plan a three-day weekend to get a lot of exploring in!
