Watch Kelly Clarkson Cover Lainey Wilson’s ‘Moonshine’
Kelly Clarkson’s show is back, and so is her “Kellyoake,” where she sings other people’s songs. This week, Kelly sang Lainey Wilson’s “Watermelon Moonshine,” which recently hit number one on the country charts.
Wilson, who hung out at an exclusive party last night (11/16) in Nashville to celebrate the release of Dolly Parton’s new Rockstar album, has yet to comment on Kelly’s version of the song on her social media.
Lainey did get a shoutout from Kelly Clarkson during the summer on Kelly’s Insta Stories.
Clarkson posted, “If you’re needing a break from listening to my album, ‘Chemistry,’ then check out @laineywilsonmusic ‘wildflowers and wild horses’ and @codyjohnson ‘when it comes to you.’ You’re gonna love both these artists… or you have s— taste.”
Wilson saw the post and reacted on her Insta stories, writing, “Well dang, this means the world from you, sister. Love you (heart emoji).”

Lainey public earlier this year with her relationship with boyfriend Devlin Hodges on the ACM red carpet; she also had him on her arm at the recent CMA Awards in Nashville. However, she still keeps her personal life close to the vest.
When she recently topped the country charts with her latest single, “Watermelon Moonshine,” she admitted that her phone has been blowing up with ex-boyfriends thinking the song is about them.
She said in a recent interview, “Every boy I have ever dated in my lifetime thinks this song is about them. No! Do you not realize I dated other people than you!'” Wilson added, “Boy, if that butters your biscuit,” they can believe she wrote it about them.
The chorus includes the lyrics, “Drinkin’ watermelon moonshine / We cut the burn with a little lime / Parkin’ back in them kudzu vines / I was his and every bit of that boy was mine / Too young to know what love was / But we were learnin’ on a sweet buzz / There’s never nothin’ like the first time / And mine’s always gonna taste like / Watermelon moonshine.”
