As a kid, Christmas was always such a magical time of year.  And I remember watching the mailbox all season long.  Of course, it was exciting to get Christmas cards.  But the thing I waited for the most? The Wish Book.  At least I think that’s what it was called.  It was that catalog that came in each year filled with all of the latest, hottest toys. I had to do a Google search to find the hottest toys of 2023 — my, how have times have changed!

I remember going through the catalog and just being mesmerized.  I’d breeze right past all the clothes and other “boring” things and head straight for the toys. And there were so many things I wanted.  That’s how I’d make my Christmas list. I’d take plenty of time flipping through the pages, reading descriptions, and circling the toys I wanted.

Christmas Lists

These days, things are a little different. I’m not sure a Christmas catalog goes out at all anymore.  At least not like it used to.  Sure, you still get sales papers from stores, but it just isn’t the same, right?

Now, kids are constantly inundated with the latest toys from TV shows, commercials, YouTube, etc. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of really cool toys out these days.  I don’t even know how kids start making their Christmas lists these days.  I’m sure with all of the constant advertising, those lists probably change a few times throughout the season. I do not envy all of you parents!  Not only for a constantly changing list, but also the cost.  Hello, inflation!  And honestly, it’s hard to purchase these things when your kids wind up only playing with them for a short time.

Hottest Toys of 2023

I have to admit though, I was surprised when looking at the hottest toys of 2023… Sure, there are a lot of new, high-tech toys that we didn’t have back when I was growing up.  But, there’s also some nostalgia in there too.  A few of these would have definitely been on my wish list if I was a kid this year!

I browsed through some of these hottest toys for the year… and here are a few toys that I would have had on my list!

  • Furby

Talk about a blast from the past.  Honestly, I don’t think I ever had a Furby.  I had friends that did.  And even though they can be a little creepy… I’d probably have put one of these cute ones on my list!

  • Robot Dog

I had a robot baby when I was growing up.  And as a dog lover, of course, I’d want a robot dog.  I think we actually got some sort of robot dog for my step daughter years ago.  I don’t know that she was nearly as excited as I was!

  • Barbie

Yep, another Christmas staple… BARBIE!  Anything Barbie would probably be on my list.  Shoot, even some adults are wanting Barbie things after the movie came out this year!

  • Tamagotchi Uni

This is a new, more interactive version than what we had when I was younger.  Although, I don’t think I had a Tamagotchi.  I do know I had a Nano Baby and Nano Pet.

  • Interactive Digital Pet

Yet another “pet” item I’d probably put on my list.  But I’m not quite sure how this one works.  It’s “digital” but comes with a pet and case so you can still touch and feel the toy.  And apparently the pet grows from a baby to an adult.

  • Clue Conspiracy

We never had the original Clue at home when I was growing up.  I have played at friend’s houses though.  But apparently there’s a new version of Clue that I might actually add to my list this year.  It’s called Clue Conspiracy…
