The Kicks Wake Up Krew

Of course, we all know the song 12 Days of Christmas. I bet you could sing most of the gifts in that song. However, have we ever stopped to think about what they would cost? How much would all of the 12 gifts set you back this year? I’ll break it down for you.

According to an article from Fox Business, the folks over at PNC Bank calculated what the 12 gifts from the song would cost in 2023. As you can imagine, it’s going to be more than last year. Yep, inflation hit the 12 Days of Christmas too! I went back and looked at an article I did last year, and in 2022 the 12 days worth of gifts would’ve set you back $45,523! That was up 10.5% from 2021.

Of course, as you can imagine, there are certain gifts that are more expensive than others. I suppose you’d just have to pick and choose which of the 12 days you actually want to participate in. Y’all ain’t getting all 12 days from me! Not in this economy anyway. Ain’t nobody got time to be trying to find ten lords a leaping, have you seen the price of gas lately?!

The total price for the 12 days worth of gifts didn’t go up as much between 2023 and 2022 as it did between 2022 and 2021. There was only a 2.7% increase this year. The total price for the gifts from the 12 Days of Christmas for 2023 is $46,729.86.

Here is how the price breaks down for each gift, and how different the price is this year from last year.

  • A Partridge in a Pear Tree

This year the cost is $319.18 (thats $20.18 for the partridge and $299 for the pear tree).
Last year the cost was $280 total.

  • Two Turtle Doves

This year the cost is $750. Last year the cost was $600. Dang! Birds are getting expensive out here!

    Two turtle doves

  • Three French Hens

The cost this year is $330. Last year the cost was $319. Yeah I could’ve told you that. Have you seen the price of chicken at the grocery store lately?!

  • Four Calling Birds

The cost this year is $599.96. Last year the cost was $600. Hey! something actually went down! by four whole pennies! Now we’re saving money!

    Four calling birds

  • Five Gold Rings

The cost this year is $1,245. Last year the cost was actually the same. So it didn’t go down, but it didn’t go up either. I’ll take that.

  • Six Geese A Laying

This year the cost is $780. Last year the price was $720. I’m learning something from this list. Birds aren’t cheap!

  • Seven Swans A Swimming

Here we go with more birds! This year the cost is $13,125. Last year the cost was the same. Why are swans so expensive?! And where do you even buy swans?

  • Eight Maids A Milking

This year the cost is $58. Last year the cost was the same. This is the cheapest gift on the list by the way. The way the figure it is eight women milking cows for an hour for minimum wage.

  • Nine Ladies Dancing

This year the cost is $8,308.12. Last year the cost was $8,308. The dancing ladies went up 12 cents. This is based on hiring dancers from a modern dance company in Philly, not the kind of dancers I bet y’all were thinking about.

  • Ten Lords A Leaping

This year the cost is $14,539.20. Last year the cost was $13,980. That was the most expensive gift last year, and it is this year as well. Its based on how much it would cost to hire 10 dancers from the Philadelphia ballet. I mean I guess you could probably get them cheaper, you don’t have to get them from Philly. Does Grovetown have a ballet?!

  • Eleven Pipers Piping

This year the cost is $3,207.38. Last year the cost was $3,021. Yep, even pipers are more expensive this year.

  • Twelve Drummers Drumming

This year the cost is $3,468.02. Last year the cost was $3,267. I guess they saw the pipers were raising their prices, so the drummers decided to as well.
