Tee Gentry

I had a great year discovering new places, all within a good road trip from Augusta. My passion is getting on the road and traveling to places I’ve never been. You never know what you’ll see; getting out, walking, and hiking in new areas is therapeutic.

In 2023, I traveled to cities and small towns in North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina. Each state has so much beauty to discover. I’ve been on suspension bridges, seen goats on a roof, visited one of the oldest cities in America, and more.

I hope you’ll find my visits to these areas informative and get you in the mood to get out, enjoy long drives, and discover new places. Speaking of driving, did you know there are health benefits to a road trip? Yep, according to our friends at Hi Road, it will make you feel better!

Also, on most of my trips, I always look for a good diner. It seems all small towns have a few, and I have been lucky enough to try some of the best. I’ve been known to drive for over an hour to eat because I’ve heard good things about a restaurant.

So hit the road and get some therapy soon and you can learn more about my favorite road trip-worthy small towns in the articles below.

  • Clayton, Georgia

This small town in the mountains of Georgia has plenty of local shops and restaurants. Tallulah Gorge State Park is nearby and worth a visit while you’re there. Vineyards, distilleries, and local accommodations downtown make for a great visit to this small mountain town.

  • Caesars Head, North Carolina

I can always find a reason to travel to the North Carolina mountains. Riding through the small towns is always a fun trip. This time, I stopped at Caesars Head State Park, about 50 minutes from Greenville, South Carolina. It’s a beautiful drive; you’ll see it is worth it when you arrive at this state park. A lady in the gift shop told me that you may see a black bear on your hike, but they are scared of you and will run away. Thankfully, I didn’t have the opportunity to test that theory.

Here is my trip to Caesars Head State Park.

  • Bluffton, South Carolina

You’ve probably passed this small village on your way to Hilton Head Island. Bluffton is a beautiful village in South Carolina, and as with most small towns, it has plenty of local shops and restaurants. Also, the waterfront area and historic buildings add to the beauty of this place. The waterfront area has a church, which is perfect in every way, as well as a park on the water and a dock. This is a great place to kick back and relax!

  • Covington, Georgia

I have to admit, I didn’t know Covington was Hollywood South. Most know the old show Dukes of Hazard was filmed here, but so many more since then. Like The Vampire Diaries, My Cousin Vinny, Remember the Titans, and many more. The old Boars Nest bar from the Dukes of Hazard is now a church and still looks pretty much the same. As you’ll read in the article below, Covington is a unique town, full of history. It’s about 40 minutes from Atlanta and not a bad trip from Augusta. Check out my story of Covington HERE.

  • Savannah, Georgia

Do you want Southern? This is a southern city at its best. Dating back to the 1700s. The architecture is worth the trip in itself. But this city has so much to offer. The Riverside district on River Street is a must-visit while you’re in town, with its cobblestone streets. I took a haunted pub crawl when I was there, and it was enjoyable and spooky! You may want to stay the weekend to see all of what this city has to offer. Here’s more on my visit to Savannah.
