LISTEN (NSFW): Zac Brown’s New Song Is Very Freakin’ Weird, And We’re A Little Worried About Him TBH
Look, I’ve been a Zac Brown Band superfan since the first day I heard “Chicken Fried” on the radio years ago. I respect that Zac is a multi-talented artist who doesn’t want to be boxed into one genre, and I loved the “Jekyll & Hyde” album, where he experimented with different styles of music. Not all of those songs were hardcore country, but they were still good songs.
ZBB just released their newest album, The Owl, two weeks ago, and many fans are calling it their worst album to date. (For the record, even though it’s my least favorite album of theirs, there are still some great songs on it.)
Fast forward to this past Friday, when Zac released a surprise solo album, The Controversy. I’ve listened to it all the way through–twice, just to give it a fair chance–and y’all…I’m genuinely worried about Zac. Apparently, I’m not the only one. Zac is being ROASTED on the internet, with comments such as, “Why couldn’t you just buy a sports car like every other man experiencing a midlife crisis?” “Alexa: play the soundtrack to hell.” And this epic burn: “Zac, never go full-on Chris Gaines, my man.” Ouch!
In Zac’s defense, not *all* of the songs on The Controversy are terrible (“Always And Never” will remind you what an incredible vocalist Zac is and why we all fell in love with his music in the first place.)
“Always And Never” stands out like a sore thumb among the rest of the album, which is pretty much a big collection of WTF moments–including this NSFW track, “Swayze.”

If you need to cleanse your ear palette after that dumpster fire, here’s the only decent song on The Controversy, “Always And Never.”
