I’ve heard the name Rhett Walker a bunch over the years. As I would be out at live broadcasts, or ticket stops, or concerts, people would come up and say “Hey, have you heard of this guy?! He’s really good, you should check him out.” Well I’d heard of him of course because of everyone talking about him, but I’d never really dug into his music. That changed a couple of years ago, and y’all I can say, he’s really good! That’s why I’m featuring him on Dub’s Playlist this week.
Rhett Walker Is A CSRA Guy
Rhett is from right here in the CSRA, but he’s found success on the national level. According to his website, he’s been nominated for a Grammy and won three GMA Dove Awards for contemporary Christian music. He’s also appeared on The Grand Ole Opry on multiple occasions. And he’s shared the stage with some of country music and Christian music’s biggest names.
Of course, y’all know I love country music, but I’ve always been drawn to contemporary Christian music as well. I honestly feel like the two genres kinda go hand in hand. Sometimes I go on iTunes or Apple Music and see what’s new in the contemporary Christian music world. I love discovering new things to listen to, and that’s why I enjoyed really digging into Rhett a few years ago.
Another thing that I thought was really cool was, one Sunday morning my wife and I were attending service at Stevens Creek Church, and there was Rhett on stage with the worship band. I think it’s awesome that this guy has been on stage at The Grand Ole Opry, and yet here he is on Sunday morning at The Creek!

Rhett has a bunch of new songs that came out not long ago, and this one is one of my favorites.
Speaking of songs that I love that you’ll find on my playlist, here’s some more. These are considered “guilty pleasure songs”, but I love them anyway.
Dub's Favorite Guilty Pleasure Songs
We’ve all got our favorite guilty pleasure songs. What the heck is that? It’s a song that has been labeled as lame or not cool by society, but you don’t care, you love it. You crank it up every time you hear it. Go ahead and think about yours. I’ll give you a list of some of mine.
I started thinking about this the other day while listening to a 1999 Pop playlist. It was straight fire if I’m being honest. You forget sometimes how good music from the ’90s was until you get elbow-deep in it again. The playlist went from Third Eye Blind to Christina Aguilera, and I’m not embarrassed to say I was singing along to both.
It took me back to the days when TRL was what everyone watched after school. Back when MTV actually still played music videos. This isn’t limited to just pop music though. There are plenty of rock and country songs that fall under the “guilty pleasure” category as well. Want some examples? How about bands like Nickelback and Creed? Society tells us we’re supposed to hate them, but they had some awesome songs!
Country is not immune to it either. I have one big song that is supposed to be absolutely hated. You’re supposed to be laughed at for listening to it, but I’ll crank it to 10 every time. You’ll see what it is on my list in a minute.
