Remembering The 2006 Kicks99 Guitar Pull
This year we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Kicks99 Guitar Pull. There have been a ton of memories made on stages all across the CSRA over the past 25 years. From Sacred Heart Cultural Center to The Imperial Theater. From The Bell Auditorium to the USCA Convocation Center, and also the old James Brown Arena. Over the next several weeks, we’ll spotlight different Guitar Pulls, but we’ll start with 2006.
The 2006 Kicks99 Guitar Pull Was A BIG Deal
2006 was the last year that the Kicks99 Guitar Pull was in the Bell Auditorium. We’re set to return there for two nights coming up on November 12th and 13th. Also, 2006 was the last time that all of the tickets to Guitar Pull were free! You just had to come by ticket stops and win them. I’ll never forget the first ever Kicks99 Guitar Pull ticket stop. It was held on a Friday afternoon at the old Toyota of Augusta on Washington Rd, and there were over 800 people there!
There was a good reason why so many people showed up to win tickets. Rascal Flatts was the headliner that year, and in 2006, there wasn’t a bigger act in music than Rascal Flatts. Of course, everything they did in country was going great, but they were also getting some crossover success as well. However, Rascal Flatts wasn’t the only reason why the 2006 Guitar Pull was special. Jason Aldean made his first Guitar Pull appearance in 2006 as well.
Of course, at that point, he wasn’t the superstar he would become just a few short years later, but he was on his way. Darryl Worley, Jeff Bates, and Julie Andrews rounded out the 2006 lineup. One of my favorite memories from the 2006 Kicks99 Guitar Pull actually had nothing to do with the show. It was the conversation I had with Jason Aldean behind The Bell. We stood there forever just talking about Georgia football.
Once he became one of the biggest stars in country music, it made that moment even more special and memorable for me. 2006 was a great year, and we can’t wait to make more memories at this year’s Kicks99 Guitar Pull!
