Go Back In Time On These Best Backroads In South Carolina
I love the feeling of hitting the backroads. Going somewhere I’ve never been and snapping pictures along the way. I love to Go Back In Time On These Best Backroads In South Carolina. I go back to some of places I’ve been before, and explore different roads, and sometimes, I drive a few hours just to discover a new area.
Small Towns And Dive Diners
South Carolina backroads are great; you never know what you’ll see—plenty of small towns and tiny communities. Occasionally, I’ll find a dive diner and discover some great food and small-town friendliness, like this place in Abbeville, South Carolina.
In 2023, I traveled to many places within the state. One such town is Edgefield, SC. I live about 10 miles away and constantly discover new things around this beautiful small town with a Hallmark movie-type town square.
Say Cheese!
Here are some pictures I took along my travels on South Carolina backroads.
This is an old country store in Ward, SC. Every old building tells a story. It looks like an inviting place where people used to sit out front and have a small Coke and some peanuts.
This picture was taken on a back road near Ware Shoals. Like the photo above, at one time, I’m sure this old store had regular customers in the community who made several trips a week to buy some bread or pick up a few quick things they needed.
This is inside an old senior living building that has been closed for a while. This building is run down, and there is graffiti everywhere inside. It’s a little spooky, too. This is on Hwy 25 outside of Edgefield, South Carolina.
This trip took me to Columbia, South Carolina, and I took some backroads out of Augusta to get there. The state house was all decked out for the holidays.
This photo was taken on Bull Swamp Road, close to Saint Matthews, on my way to Folly Beach. The trucks were in front of someone’s house. Yard art!
See a pattern here? I love old country stores. This looks like an old service station to me. Fairview Crossroads is about 50 minutes Northwest of Augusta, Georgia.
A church in the small village of Vaucluse, South Carolina.
Peach trees in Trenton, South Carolina, fall of 2023.
Abandoned home outside of Edgefield, South Carolina. At one time, I’m sure this was a beautiful place and full of life.
The Rough House on the Square in Abbeville, South Carolina. This place seems frozen in time. The entire small town is a great place to explore. Also, do yourself a favor and order a couple of hot dogs at this place!
