CSRA News: Investigation Continues in Columbia County Fatal Altercation
An investigation into Tuesday evening’s fatal altercation in Columbia County continues.
The incident occurred at a home in the Halifax North subdivision off Evans-to-Locks Road where authorities say 20 year old Donquae Bates of North Augusta confronted a person renting the home.
Deputies on the scene say Bates fired at the resident, who returned fire along with the officer.
Bates eventually turned the gun on himself and died on the way to the hospital.
Three other people in the home were wounded, but not seriously.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a recent conflict involving Bates and the resident a couple of weeks ago in South Carolina.
