CSRA News: Improvement to Former Regency Mall Possible
City officials could soon have a new tool at their disposal to improve the former Regency Mall site, even though it’s not owned by the city.
A bill in the state legislature would allow local government to declare old mall properties as blighted, then step in to make improvements.
District One Commissioner Jordan Johnson says the abandoned property holds the key to south Augusta’s future. The 50-plus acre site has been idle for years, but is owned by an out of town company that’s shown little or no interest in keeping it up.
