‘Then She Was Gone’ – What’s Cody Reading
You may or may not already know this about me, but I love to read. Honestly, I didn’t do a lot of it for many years though. Then, when I started reading again, it was mostly personal development. But a lot changed over the last year. And if you’re wondering what’s Cody reading right now? It’s a book called Then She Was Gone.
I went to the library yesterday since we had the day off. You see, last summer, we got a library card. It was the first time I’d had a library card since high school probably. We got it while we had my stepdaughter Alexis staying with us for the summer. But, after spending a lot of money on books… I thought I should put the library card to use for myself! And I fell in love with reading all over again! In fact, I finished 32 books last year, and I’m hoping to surpass that goal this year. But I will admit, I’m off to a slow start. Last year, I didn’t really read a lot until the end of the year, so I should be able to easily blow past my goal.
Then She Was Gone – By Lisa Jewell
Anyway, back to this book I’m reading. Then She Was Gone is a novel written by Lisa Jewell. Jewell is a New York Times bestselling author. Other books from the author include Invisible Girl and The Truth About Melody Browne. I’d never read any of Jewell’s books, but saw this one in a book club group I’m in on Facebook.
I went to the library with no idea what I was going to get. I pulled up a few friends on Facebook who sometimes share their current reads. Then I pulled up the book club group. I searched for multiple books at the library, but unfortunately, they don’t always have a lot of the newer books I’m looking for. And if they do, they are usually checked out.
As someone who enjoys true crime, mysteries, and the like… I figured I’d give this one a go. And I’m just going to go ahead and say– I’m hooked on this one. I read a good bit yesterday afternoon. Then more before bed. I didn’t want to put it down.
At lunch, I read a few more chapters. And I honestly can’t wait to get home and read more. I THINK I have an idea of where this mystery is headed. But I’m still intrigued as to how it will play out.
Basically, this 15-year-old girl goes missing. Her mother spends years hoping for answers. Then… the mother meets a man and starts to fall for him. She winds up meeting his daughters… and there’s something strangely familiar about one of them.
I won’t let on to any more… mainly because that’s about as much as I can give you without ruining the story. But so far, I am really enjoying it. It’s well written, and leaves you guessing.
I do know the person in the book club group said she loved all the twists and turns of this one. But she did add that there is a tear jerker of an ending. So I probably need to make sure I’m not reading it in public!
