Rainbow Bridge in North Carolina To Remember Lost Pets
A woman in Lake Lure, North Carolina has created a Rainbow Bridge to celebrate and remember pets we have lost.
Amy Wald is an artist who wanted to create a spot for the community to remember their lost four-legged friends. Amy lost 2 dogs herself during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Fox Carolina. She asked Lake Lure officials if she could build a rainbow bridge. She got the approval needed and built the bridge in the Flowering Bridge community garden.
The beautiful bridge represents a bridge that has been written about in various books and poems. It’s a bridge that’s talked about our beloved pets going over when they pass away. And it’s considered a place that connects earth and heaven.
Amy Wald attached one of her own dogs’ collars on the railing of the bridge. For a while, it was the only one. But now, pictures of the bridge are going viral online. People from all over started coming to add their own mementos from their pets. Now, there are hundreds of collars, harnesses, tags, and pictures that adorn the bridge.
You may have heard of love lock bridges, where people put locks to represent their love. And, we actually have one here in Columbia County at the Savannah Rapids. But Amy Wald has been told there’s not another place like her real-life rainbow bridge.

After a long day of work, there is nothing like coming home to your furry friends and their unconditional love. They’re full of pure excitement, jumping & wagging their tail, just to see you walk through that door. They pour their love into you because they’ve missed you all day and we do the same to them. Because of this mutual devotion to each other, most cat & dog owners consider their pets to be their children too. They are certainly considered to be a huge part of the family. Not only do they provide companionship for us as humans, but it is also said that this relationship is good for our own physical & mental health. They can sense when our moods or energy is off. Some can even sense if we are sick in some way and provide us with much-needed comfort during that time.
They do so much for us so why not spoil them in return? Whether it’s showering them with attention, buying them fancy toys or special treats, or even just letting them sleep in your bed, there’s no shortage of ways to show your pet some love.
