There Is A 5-Star Dive Bar on Lady's Island in South Carolina. I know...it sounds like an oxymoron, it's The Fillin' Station, a 5-star dive bar, and this place is really good. First, it checks off all of the requirements for a dive bar. Not fancy, actually it's kinda of unkept; it needs some paint, and the sign is faded. But all great dive bars have to have the following: ice-cold beer, a few rednecks, an American Flag, and friendly people who love it.

The Fillin' Station, just outside of Beaufort, SC, checks off all of the requirements. There Is A 5-Star Dive Bar on Lady's Island in South Carolina.

A Tire Problem At The Fillin' Station

It also is known for its great food. When I arrived at the Fillin' Station last week, my first encounter was with a guy who kept staring at my front tire while I was getting out of my truck. "Looks like you have a nail in your tire, buddy," he said, and I walked around to look. "I can plug that for you if you would like." Remember, one of the requirements of a dive bar is friendly people. I thanked him and told him I would take it to a tire shop, but I appreciated his offering.

Did Someone Say Hamburger?

I was a little concerned about the food after seeing this place, but the nice couple I met while walking on Beaufort's waterway told me this place had great hamburgers, and I decided to try it. I am always looking for the next great hamburger and decided to see if this place had it.

Once inside, it was dark; that's another dive bar requirement, by the way. Then,  I saw the deck. It was large and overlooked the marsh, and the view was absolutely beautiful.

A Burger And A Beer

I ordered a burger with fries and a cold beer and enjoyed the view. Then, when my burger arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Not just good, but excellent. The fries were great, too. This is one place I will come back to when I'm in the area. It was a great experience. The food, the beer, ice cold, by the way, and the view. Perfection!

I thanked the lady for the great burger, bought the next round for the "tire guy" and his friends, and headed back home. Another successful road trip!

If You Go

Here's the address:  The fillin' station is located just across the Woods Memorial Bridge, yes, the bridge that Tom Hanks ran across in Forrest Gump. The address is  57 Sea Island Parkway, Lady's Island, SC.
