Georgia Governor Announces Direct College Admissions Initiative
Starting next week, over 120,000 high school seniors in Georgia will get a personalized letter from Governor Brian Kemp. The letters will list any public technical institutions, college and universities that are holding a spot for them in the Fall 2024 semester. This will be based on their academic eligibility.
The letter will also outline the next steps the student needs to take to claim a spot at a college or technical school on the student’s individual list.
Georgia Match
Kemp announced his Georgia Match initiative today, one of the largest state-run admissions programs in the nation. Kemp said it’s hoped the program will encourage all learners and households, including those that don’t typically consider postsecondary education.
“Georgia Match is a great example of the historic success we can achieve when stakeholders across the education spectrum work together,” said Kemp. “This program will ensure that every high school student in our state knows they have options to learn and succeed here in the No. 1 state for business.”
College Admission Initiatives
Kemp said no other state in the country currently has a direct admissions initiative of this scope and scale.
Kemp said the number of schools listed on a Georgia Match letter will be determined by the individual student’s 11th grade HOPE GPA and freshman index score. All students will receive a letter of academic eligibility for admission to the 22 Technical College System of Georgia institutions. And those with higher GPAs will also see up to 23 University System of Georgia institutions, including Augusta University. The three USG institutions not participating in the Georgia Match program include The University of Georgia, Georgia Tech and Georgia College and State University. They require a standardized test and consider additional factors before offering admission.
All participating institutions in the Georgia Match program will waive application fees for students during this November for students who apply through Georgia Match.
Students can look at their personalized Match list, request more information, and claim their spot HERE starting Monday, October 9.
