Augusta Woman Charged With Woman’s Death in Hit-and-Run
An Augusta woman was taken into custody today in connection with a deadly hit-and-run last weekend in Richmond County.
The sheriff’s office says 29-year-old Jasmine Nicole Johnson faces multiple charges in connection with the October 7 death of 38-year-old Joni Mitchell. Mitchell was riding her bicycle with her 14-year-old son Saturday when she was hit on Lumpkin Road at Fleming Drive. The driver left the scene. Mitchell was pronounced dead minutes after emergency crews arrived.
Earlier today, the sheriff’s office released a picture of a green 2002 Ford Explorer and authorities said they were searching for the driver for questioning in connection with the hit-and-run.
Investigators haven’t said how Johnson was found. So far, the charges against her haven’t been released, but authorities have said Johnson had an active warrant and also had no license, no insurance and no registration. She ‘s being held in the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
