Dub’s First Kicks99 Guitar Pull
Let’s go back to 2002, and let me tell you about my first Kicks99 Guitar Pull. I can tell you this, the show sure has changed a lot in 21 years. It’s gotten so much bigger than we ever thought it would. The past 21 years have been a crazy ride. So let’s hop in the time machine and go back to November of 2002.
Back then the show was just starting to really get a buzz around it. For the late 90s and early 2000s we’d had some pretty big names. Brad Paisley, Trace Adkins, Joe Diffie, and Chris Cagle had all played the show in the first three years. The lineup in 2002 was definitely going to be the biggest one to date up until that point.
The 2002 Guitar Pull Lineup
The lineup that year was Lonestar, Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton, Mark Chesnutt, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Cyndi Thompson. This would be Trace Adkins second appearance on the show, and it would be Blake Shelton’s first of two appearances. One thing that remains as it did in 2002, is that tickets sold out quickly.
Of course back then there were multiple ways to get tickets. You could go to the box office in person, or you could order them by phone. You could also go to any Ticketmaster outlet in town, which included Publix supermarkets. We didn’t do ticket stops back then, so once tickets sold out, that was it. We did give away a few tickets on air back then as well.
It’s so much easier for me to tell you more of the story through video, so check this out. These are some of my memories from my first Kicks99 Guitar Pull.

A lot of artists received votes this morning. Names like Cole Swindell, Eric Church, Blake Shelton and Lady A and Jason Aldean. Yes all of those artists have played Guitar Pull in the past, a couple of them have played it more than once. However, they didn’t make the top five list.
These were some of the artists that got a lot of votes, but fell just outside the top five. Scotty McCreery, Jon Pardi, Jackson Dean, Ray Fulcher and Clay Walker. So if names like that didn’t make the list, who did? Again this top five list was compiled by your phone calls and Facebook comments.
