90-Hour Road Closure and Detour Coming to Lewiston Road
For four days later this month, those who travel Lewiston Road/ Horizon South Parkway will want to find an alternate route, if possible.
ER Snell, the contractor for the Lewiston Road Widening Project, said a portion of Lewiston Road/Horizon South Parkway at I-20, Exit 190 will be closed to finalize work related to the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) configuration conversion.
The closure will begin at noon on Thursday, January 18, and will last through 6:00 am Monday, January 22, weather permitting.
The Following will be Closed:
- I-20 Exit 190 Interchange–There will be no traffic access between I-20 Exit 190 and Lewiston Road/Horizon South Parkway
- I-20 Exit 190 Overpass–There will be no traffic permitted across the Lewiston Road/Horizon South Parkway overpass over I-20
- Lewiston Road between I-20 West Ramp and William Few Parkway–There will be no through traffic permitted along this section of Lewiston Road
- Horizon South Parkway between I-20 East Ramp and Gateway Boulevard–There will be no through traffic permitted along this section of Horizon South Parkway
Detour will be Posted for the Interchange Closure that will Utilize:
- I-20 Exit 183 Appling Harlem Highway (US 221/SR 47) to the West
- I-20 Exit 194 South Belair Road/Jimmie Dyess Parkway (SR 383) to the East
The closure is needed while workers construct the remaining portions of the DDI that can’t be done while traffic is crossing the bridge or using the ramps.
Other Work that will be Done:
- Realignment of Lanes
- Pouring curbs and gutters
- Pouring concrete islands
- Placing pavement markings
- Reconfiguring, reprogramming, and testing signal equipment.
Weather Permitting:
- Ramps and through traffic are expected to reopen to vehicular traffic on Monday, January 22, by 6:00 am. At that time, new traffic patterns will be in place that follow the new DDI lane configurations.
Reminders When You Approach a Work Zone:
- Slow down
- Allow extra distance between vehicles
- Watch for advanced warning signs
- Obey road crew flaggers
- Expect the unexpected
- If possible, plan to take an alternate route and/or allow additional time for commuting while the work is being done.
