Augusta School Of Massage – A Review
When it comes to self-care, one thing often comes up quite a bit. Go get a massage! While not everyone likes massages, I personally LOVE them. But as someone who is budget-conscious and also rarely does anything for myself, massages aren’t a top priority for me. Then I discovered the Augusta School of Massage.
The Augusta School Of Massage
I’m not sure when I thought to look it up, but a couple of years ago I finally searched for the Augusta School of Massage. That’s when I learned I could get a one-hour massage for just $40. I did get a massage back then and just hadn’t made time to go back.
Originally, the school is located below Tuscany, A Classic Italian Spa. But, due to a fire, they are currently operating out of a location at 4090 Washington Road.
The school was started back in 2000 by Leigh Ann Keels and Jackie King. They believed everyone could benefit from massage therapy, and they were committed to providing quality education for their students. Throughout the years the school has grown and trained many massage therapists. And they continue to enroll new students each year.
Pros Of Using A Massage School
For Christmas, my fiancé asked what I wanted. I told him I really wanted a massage. At some point, I saw on Facebook that they had a Christmas Special — 4 massages for $100! So, that’s what he wound up getting me. And I booked the first of four for this past Saturday.
The biggest pro when it comes to getting a massage at a massage school is, of course, the price. If you’ve ever booked a massage at a spa, you’ll know that they can be a bit costly. But even at the normal rate ($40), this is a great way to still pamper yourself but not break the bank. Occasionally they will offer even more discounted rates on their Facebook page.
Another pro, in my opinion, is you’re helping out the students. In order to graduate, they have to get real-life experience doing massages. Before the massage, you fill out a form with some basic information and your expectations. Afterward, you fill out another form to let them know how well the experience was and offer feedback for the student.
Cons Of Using A Massage School
When it comes to “cons,” these aren’t make or break for me. First of all, the environment is a little bit different than a traditional spa. It is one large room that’s divided up with curtains for privacy. All of the students and their clients are in that room. So it’s not quite as private and quiet as you might expect. Honestly, it’s never really bothered me. Everyone remains pretty quiet, and they have relaxing music.
The only other thing is the student giving you the massage may not have experience in all types of massage. For example, I prefer deep-tissue massages. I have a lot of tension and knots in my shoulders and back, so I really need deep pressure. On Saturday, the student doing my massage said they hadn’t covered deep tissue massages yet, but she would try to provide firm pressure.
Again, it didn’t make or break the experience for me. I still had a great massage and felt very relaxed afterward. Also, appointment times are limited to certain days. So, you’ll have to check out their calendar on Facebook to see what days they are offering clinics.
Help Them Help You
Overall, I highly recommend the Augusta School of Massage. The students are very professional and are working towards their goals. And you can help them. First of all, by giving them experience. But also by providing feedback to help them continue to improve.
I still have 3 more massages to use from my Christmas gift… So I am already looking at when I’ll book my next one!
