Billions of loud bugs are coming to Georgia and South Carolina. Y'all ready? But wait, there's more. There will be two broods of these cicadas this year. I'm told it's the first time two broods will come out simultaneously in more than 200 years, and it won't happen again for another 200 years. Aren't we the lucky ones?

Cicadas In Georgia and South Carolina

Remember the name. Cicadas. They'll be here in May and will be around til the end of June. I'm sure many of us will use profanity before the word cicadas a few times a day before this is all over.

The good news is these bugs will not harm humans or pets. The bad news is the males can be as loud as a motorcycle or a jet flying by. But, let's be positive for a moment and talk about the benefits of these annoying little guys.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency,  cicadas add nutrients to the soil as they decompose. RIP. Also, they are a valuable food source for birds and other predators, and, believe it or not, they can aerate lawns and improve water filtration into the ground.

Some people even like to eat them. I, however, don't know any of these people. According to Business Insider, they are called the shrimp of the land. Some say they taste like chicken or shrimp or even asparagus. I'll take their word for it.

If you can't stand it and want to have a Cicadas appetizer, here is a recipe from the Washington Post.
