Augusta Animal Services Announces New Adoption Initiative
There’s a new adoption initiative starting at Augusta Animal Services in August to promote finding homes for the many great animals who wind up in the shelter. This will help bring more awareness to the community about the many strays available at the shelter, and also help free up space at the shelter so they can provide help to even more animals.
Augusta Animal Services is a department within the city of Augusta’s government that serves in various capacities. One area that Augusta Animal Services is truly passionate about is providing humane solutions for strays and homeless pets. A big part of what they do includes returning lost animals to their owners and finding homes for others through adoption, rescue, and foster efforts. And now, there’s a new adoption initiative coming soon at Augusta Animal Services.
In a Facebook post from Friends of Augusta Animal Services on Saturday, they announced a new initiative to encourage more pet adoptions in the community. This new initiative is called Save-A-Pet Mondays. This will be the first of new efforts the organization is looking to establish.
Save-A-Pet Mondays – New Adoption Initiative
With this new program, Augusta Animal Services will focus every Monday solely on getting animals to their new homes. The shelter will close intake of healthy stray animals and will not schedule any owner surrenders. This program begins with the first Save-A Pet Monday being August 5th.
Animal Control Officers will still be available in the community to address any calls. As for the kennel staff, they will all work toward getting each animal adopted. Stray intake will resume on Tuesday.
Save-A-Pet Mondays aren’t just for the pets, there’s great stuff for those seeking to adopt the animals too. First of all, you can save money when you adopt on one of these special days. They will have different discounts or adoption specials that will be announced on their Facebook and TikTok accounts on the Friday before.
In addition to discounts and specials, each person who adopts a cat or dog on a Save-A-Pet Monday will get to choose a new, free toys from the donation closet. And while supplies last, everyone who adopts will get a brand new dog or cat bed.
The goal of this new adoption initiative is ultimately to find forever homes for the many animals they have in the shelter. In return, this opens up availability for the shelter to continue saving even more animals.
On Save-A-Pet Mondays, the staff will be on hand to introduce you to the adoptable pets, plus give you a chance to see what the shelter is like. An animal control officer will also be on site to answer questions you might have. There will also be a representative from a local rescue to talk about fostering and the transport program.
The shelter will also have extended hours on Save-A-Pet Mondays. They will be open for adoptions until 7 p.m.
At Augusta Animal Services, dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots, heartworm tested, microchipped, and temperament tested. Cats are also spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
