Medical Associates Plus Announces COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Augusta Mall
Augusta, GA – Medical Associates Plus (MAP) will conduct a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for the community on Thursday, July 8. The MAP COVID-19 mobile unit will be available from 9 am until 3 pm at the Food Court parking lot of the Augusta Mall. The vaccinations are free and health insurance is not required for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. The vaccine is currently approved for those 18 years of age and older. The health center is prepared to administer 100 vaccinations. MAP CEO J.R. Richards surmises that “it is very important that our community is vaccinated to reduce the incidences of infections, hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19, and we are here in the community for the community in support of keeping residents safe.”
Medical Associates Plus is participating in a nationwide effort of Community Health Centers to expand vaccine accessibility to underserved communities. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, $143 million has been allocated to 35 health centers in the state of Georgia, through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 to address the coronavirus pandemic. MAP was awarded $3.6 million from the American Rescue Plan. The award allows for the expansion of COVID-19 vaccinations, testing, and treatment for vulnerable populations; the delivery of preventative and primary health care services to people at higher risk for COVID-19; and the expansion of the health center’s operational capacity during the pandemic and beyond, including modifying and improving physical infrastructure and adding a mobile unit.
MAP is partnering with local organizations, agencies, and churches to host vaccination clinics to close access gaps and the COVID-19 mobile unit is traveling throughout the CSRA to administer vaccinations. On June 15, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 43.7% of the United States total population is vaccinated and the Georgia Department of Public Health reported that 35% of Georgia residents are fully vaccinated. Most infectious diseases experts agree that the United States will reach the target herd immunity when 60 to 70 percent of the population is fully vaccinated.
