More Storms Headed To The CSRA This Afternoon
There’s a possible risk of more severe weather in the CSRA today. Following Tuesday’s storms that resulted in a confirmed tornado touchdown in Bamberg County, the National Weather Service says there’s a good chance we could have some severe storms in the area this afternoon and evening.
A Wind Advisory is in Effect for the Following Counties until 1 am Saturday:
- Warren
- Washington
- Wilkes
- Emanuel
- Glascock
- Hancock
- Jefferson
- Johnson Taliaferro
Southwest winds are expected to be between 20 and 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and power outages are also a possibility. Also keep in mind the gusty winds could lead to downed trees and power lines, especially with the saturated soil from Tuesday’s downpours making trees weaker.
Wind Advisory In Effect for the Following Counties from 4 pm Today Until 7 am Saturday:

- Burke
- Columbia
- Richmond
- Lincoln
- McDuffie
- McCormick
- Bamberg
- Barnwell
- Edgefield
- Saluda
South winds are expected to be between 15 and 20 mph with frequent gusts between 35 and 40 mph.
Some South Carolina Schools in the CSRA Altered School Schedules Today
Due to the possibility of storms and gusty winds in the forecast this afternoon Aiken, McCormick, Barnwell, Edgefield, and Fox Creek High School in North Augusta will have early release today.
Flood Warning:
Minor flooding is occurring , but moderate flooding is in the forecast once the rain begins in Johnson, Washington and Saluda Counties.
When You Can Expect the Storms Today
The National Weather Service in Columbia says the most severe weather is expected between 3 pm and 8 pm. Less than an inch of rain is predicted, but gusty winds are expected and tornadoes are also a possibility. Counties south of I-20 seem to have the greatest risk of severe weather today.
Bad Weather Hit Georgia One Year Ago
It was exactly one year ago that severe storms rolled through Georgia, leaving two people dead. Seven counties were deemed eligible for disaster assistance due to the amount of damage from the storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
