The Time Morgan Wallen Came To Augusta
Morgan Wallen in Augusta? Yep, he has been to the CSRA before. His visit came several years ago, and not many people even know he was here. In 21 years of working for Kicks99, I’ve been fortunate to meet a lot of country’s biggest stars when they were first starting out. That’s what happened on a random Monday back in 2016. I’ll give you the story.
When Did Morgan Wallen Come To Augusta?
It was Monday July 11th 2016. A few days before we’d gotten an email from one of our record rep friends Tyler. He asked us if he could bring a new artist by the station to play us some songs. That new artist’s name was Morgan Wallen. We said sure, not knowing that the future biggest star in country music was about to sit down in our station conference room.
Morgan was very nice. I noticed that he was really sunburned, and he said that he’d been playing golf with his manager in Tennessee the day before. We talked about a little bit of everything. From how much he loves Eric Church, and how the “Sinners Like Me” album changed his life, to Atlanta Falcons football. Then Morgan played us a few songs.
What Did He Play?
Morgan only played about three or four songs, and I remember one of them being “Whiskey Glasses”, which was my favorite song he did that day. Also he played “The Way I Talk” which was his current single at the time. I’ll be honest, I can’t remember what else he played, but I think it was “Up Down” and “Chasin’ You”.
How long was Morgan Wallen in Augusta? He was only here for a little over an hour, and unfortunately we haven’t been able to get him back since. Hopefully we can change that!
Here’s the picture that Morgan and I took that day. You can tell we’ve both changed a little bit over the years.
This is the picture Morgan signed for me that day. It’s still on my desk to this day!
