In a Facebook post earlier this week, SRP Park announced the date for the groundbreaking ceremony for the North Augusta Miracle League. This project is a collaboration between a local nonprofit and the City of North Augusta Parks and Recreation.

Announcement Of Miracle League Field Plans

In a May 2022 report from WRDW, an announcement was made about the plans for a Miracle League field. The RECing Crew, a nonprofit offering recreational programs for those with special needs, had a dream of creating a space for people with disabilities to play sports.

The city of North Augusta approved the plans to build this space, but it's been a long time coming. There were many things to consider and challenges to overcome. One thing the organization had to consider was that playing on grass isn't easy for everyone and the uneven surfaces could be an issue.

Pamela Sticker, president of The RECing Crew, wanted the field to be complete accessible. She also wanted to ensure it would be a multipurpose field that can be used by any special needs organizations in the CSRA.

With the challenges, the organization knew they would need to use AstroTurf, and have an accessible dugout.  One thing that delayed the process was the high costs. From 2021 to 2022, Stickler told WRDW the price doubled, going from $1 million to $2 million.

According to the North Augusta Miracle League website, the estimate is $1.3 million. And as of this year, $1.2 million has been raised to contribute to this project.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

The long awaited groundbreaking ceremony for the North Augusta Miracle League has finally been announced.  The event will be held on Thursday, February 15th at 2 p.m. It will be held at 100 Riverview Park, near the San Salvadore entrance.

After the ceremony, construction is set to start immediately.

A Multipurpose Space

While the North Augusta Miracle Field will be used for baseball, it is designed to be multipurpose.  According to the website, the organization hopes to host other activities including tournaments, kickball, pickleball, movie nights, and more.

The RECing Crew also plans to offer the field to other organizations that serve children and adults with disabilities. The field will be used for special programs, outdoor activities, classroom programs, and more.

Dub and Cody from the Kicks Wake Up Krew participated in The Big Run last June, which helped raise funds for The RECing Crew. See some photos below!

Dub and Cody Completed The Big Run 5K

The Big Run 5K is in the books! We did it! Cody and I completed the race yesterday and if I told you I wasn't sore today, I'd be lying. It was a pretty cool experience. Someone asked me this morning, would I do it again? You know I think I would, but I'd probably pick one in the Spring or the Fall. It was just a little warm yesterday.

There was an awesome turnout for The Big Run 5K this year. We heard around 500 people were there to run in person and more were doing the race virtually. It was held at SRP Park in North Augusta. The majority of the race was held on The Greenway in North Augusta, which I'd honestly never really been on before, so that was cool to check out.

People of all ages and skill levels were there yesterday. That was really cool to see. From younger kids to older people, everyone was there giving it their all. We saw moms running while pushing strollers. There was a guy doing the race in his wheelchair. That was really cool to see! He wasn't letting anything slow him down.

So how'd we do? Well out of 500 participants, Cody finished 162 and I finished 163. We ran the 3.1 miles in a little over 31 minutes. The thing I was proudest of is that I kept pace with Cody who runs a lot more than me. I ran when she ran, and I walked when she walked. That was my main goal, just don't get left behind.

If you're looking to run in an upcoming race and want to see some of the ones in the near future here in the CSRA, just click here.

Starting To Feel It A Little Bit

The sweat was pouring as you can see, but we were pushing through.

Not Going Down Yet

I found out yesterday, 3.1 miles is a lot farther than I thought it was. Especially when you're running it and especially in June.

We Did It!

We sprinted to the finish line and got our medals.

Celebrating With My Biggest Little Fan

I was starving after the 5K so Kelsey, me and Maddie went and ate afterward. I might've had a cold beverage or two also
