What is Custard?
Custard is very similar to ice cream, but the ingredients differ. While ice cream is made with milk, cream, and sweetener, frozen custard is made up of those same ingredients but with egg yolks. Without the egg, it would just be ice cream.
This extra ingredient gives custard a richer, thicker, and creamier texture than ice cream.
What else is on the menu at the Meadows?
There is more than just custard at this dessert shop. They have shakes, Italian ice, Gelati, floats, and custard pies!
The special treats don’t just stop there. The Meadows has also released their April Flavors calendar. This calendar showcases the flavor of the day for the entire month. On Free Scoop Day, April 20, their special flavors of the day will be Black Cherry Vanilla and Dirty Turtle.
It’s already a good day when you can get something sweet, but something sweet for free? now that’s more like it!

One of my fondest memories as a child was taking the old-time ice cream maker out on the back porch and churning ice cream. These were not the electric ice cream makers we have today. I remember taking turns with my brothers and sisters cranking the handle. Mom would make the ice cream and Dad would watch and make sure we kept the rock salt applied and made sure we didn’t stop cranking the handle.
Technology today really does make it easier to make ice cream. You can just plug an ice cream maker in the kitchen and boom ice cream. You can even make it in the freezer. So many ways to make it today. So what makes homemade ice different? The recipes you use of course.
As you know almost all of the recipes start with a base of milk, sugar, and whipping cream. It’s from this point that goodness starts. We all know that vanilla and chocolate are the easiest to make. Let’s have some fun with it now.
