Summerville Porchfest: Where The Front Porch Becomes The Stage
This past weekend there was a one-of-kind music festival held in the Summerville Historic District of Downtown Augusta. The Summerville Porch Festival is a free community-centered music festival where musical acts perform an hour-long show on the porch or in the yard of the host’s home.
The event is completely volunteer run from participation to planning. The purpose of the event is just for the greater good of doing something fun.
Community organizations were set up along with local craft vendors, food vendors, and other small businesses.
While porchfest is an event that is held across the nation, this is a first of its kind in the area. And this is the first I’ve ever heard of any event like it!
How The Summerville Porchfest Works
When arriving to the festival you were able to park and just walk at your own leisure to each host house that had a live performance going on. Once you made it to the porch, you could sit or stand and enjoy each band.
Many people had blankets and made the best of the nice weather!
Each band played a variety of songs from different genres throughout the day.
Below is the schedule from the festival showing each band that was a part of the event:
They also had an interactive map for fest-goers that showed the restroom locations, retail shop locations, merch and info booth, and where the community organizations were placed.
There was a great turnout for this year’s Summerville Porchfest and they are hoping to do it again next year!
