The Mayor of Augusta, Garnett Johnson, and the Greater Arts Council of Augusta gathered at the top of the 5th Street bridge for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

36 Artists spent April 20th through April 27th enhancing Augusta's Fifth Street with one-of-a-kind murals.

Most of the murals created along the 5th Street bridge were 3 feet tall, but one piece was a 40-foot-long mural dedicated to women in the military.

Augusta, home to military base Fort Eisenhower, inhabits tons of military families -so including a piece like this was certainly needed.

As a Military "child" - me and my family were definitely excited to see this at the unveiling. Local Artist, Destinee Love, was selected to install this 40-foot-long mural celebrating Women in the Military.

My mom, Iasha Nichols, proudly served 20 years in the U.S. Army. Seeing this mural on the walls of Downtown Augusta was a powerful moment for her.

Before getting into the murals, this sign was painted to explain how the project got here, who facilitated the project, and the completion year.

At the beginning of the entrance, on the right, you are greeted with a mural that paints out a unique way to spell Augusta.

Tiffany was one of the artists selected to be a part of the project.

I think one of the coolest things during the event was there were still people finishing up their murals. So the community still got the chance to see these pieces of art come to life right before their eyes.

Here is another artist that was putting the finishing touches on their painting during the unveiling.

Two more murals along the 5th Street bridge. I loved that most of the murals created along the bridge were filled with vibrant colors.
