A Georgia woman is being praised for her honesty when she returns money found in her KFC order.
Time For Lunch
JoAnn Oliver lives in Jackson, Georgia, which is about an hour South of Atlanta. According to TODAY, Oliver works as an accounts payable specialist at Head Start program in Jackson. She went through the drive-thru at her local KFC to order lunch on September 14th. Oliver got her food and went back to her office to eat. When she pulled out her lunch, she got a surprise!
Quite The Surprise
Though she had gone to KFC in hopes of getting a chicken potpie, they were out, so she settled for a chicken sandwich. As she took the food out of the bag, she found a wad of cash underneath the sandwich.
Her co-worker could tell something was wrong and when she asked, Oliver showed her the bag with cash. The co-worker started taking pictures, as Oliver tried to decide what to do. She counted the money, which totaled over $500.

Even though she is caring for her husband who has suffered two strokes and is battling terminal cancer, Oliver knew she had to return the money.
She called the local police’s non-emergency line and waited for them to arrive. After the officer counted the money, Oliver then went back to the KFC with him.
How It Happened
Upon returning the money, they learned a worker had accidentally used a food envelope containing the money for her order. It was meant for a deposit, and could have costs someone their job.
The Jackson Police Department shared about Oliver’s story on their Facebook page, praising her character and integrity.
While she could have quietly kept the money, she ultimately knew what she had to do. She told TODAY: “I was raised to know if it’s not yours, you don’t keep it. It’s one of the main things that I’ve been saying ever since. It was not mine to keep!”
