WWE Has Been Sold-WWE Merges With UFC
WWE merges with UFC today! Wow! I didn’t think I’d be saying that phrase today. There were rumors that WWE was being sold. Those rumors have been out there for a while, however they’ve gone silent over the last month or so. Is it going to happen? We got that answer just a little bit ago. WWE has been sold.
According to ESPN, WWE has been sold to the company that runs Ultimate Fighting Championship. They will combine to make a $21.4 billion dollar entertainment company. Here’s what the ESPN article said about the merger. “A new publicly traded company will house UFC and World Wrestling Entertainment brands, with Endeavor Group Holdings Inc. taking a 51% controlling interest in the new company. Existing WWE shareholders will hold a 49% stake.”
So who will be in control? The ESPN article said this. “The new business, which does not yet have a name, will be led by Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel. Vince McMahon, executive chairman at WWE, will serve in the same role at the new company. Dana White will continue as president of UFC, and Nick Khan will be president at WWE.”
I never thought I’d hear that WWE was sold. Being a WWE fan and a UFC fan however I’m interested in seeing how this plays out. Will we see more cross promotion? I certainly hope so. Its going to be interesting to see how this all plays out in the coming weeks.
