Jenny Ranks All Of The Songs On Rascal Flatts’ Farewell EP
Rascal Flatts released their farewell EP, How They Remember You, on Friday, and you know that as their number one fan, I’ve had it on repeat for days.
As the resident fan club member card-carrying Rascal Flatts superfan, I have ranked all seven tracks on How They Remember You–although, let’s be honest: this entire project is some of Flatts’ best work.
7. “Through The Years”
Originally recorded as a tribute to the late Kenny Rogers, “Through The Years” reminds me of all of the moments of life that have been narrated by the music of Rascal Flatts–listening to “Stand” as I drove into work the day that I quit my 9 to 5 job to chase a dream; crying sad tears to “Winner At A Losing Game” after realizing that the boy I liked didn’t like me back; and crying happy tears to “Bless The Broken Road” after meeting my husband, Chris. This cover of “Through The Years” is spun as a thank you from Flatts to their fans–and also echos sentiments of gratitude from fans to Flatts.
6. “Feel It In The Morning”
Reminiscent of their 2014 #1 hit, “I Like The Sound Of That,” “Feel It In The Morning” is a fun song about the hope of finding lasting love.
5. “Sip Away”
This is the perfect summer song! If “Sip Away” isn’t on your summer playlist, you’re missing out–also, this song will make you crave a Corona with lime in a big way!
4. “Warmer”
I call this one Melt 2.0–Rascal Flatts channel their sexy side for this slow jam. (I wonder if they made a music video for this, would it feature a cameo by Joe Don Rooney’s bare behind?)
3. “How They Remember You”
The EP’s title track and the band’s current single off the project, “How They Remember You” is a look back at over two decades of music and memories–and it makes me cry every time I listen to it.
2. “Quick, Fast, In A Hurry” (featuring Rachel Wammack)
Just an altogether solid BOP! Gary LeVox’s soulful vocals are the perfect compliment to Rachel Wammack in this duet, which kinda puts me in mind of “Fast Cars And Freedom.”
- “Looking Back”
“Looking Back” is everything that made me fall in love with Rascal Flatts from day one. Their iconic sound lends itself perfectly to this hardcore country power ballad, and I would LOVE to see it released as a single.
They say to save the best for last, and Rascal Flatts have done just that with each song on How They Remember You. While I’m already looking forward to a reunion down the road, this collection of songs is a beautiful parting gift from my favorite group to tide me over in the meantime.
