Kane Brown released his ‘Experiment’ album in November 2018. On that album, was a song called “Short Skirt Weather.” The song was never released as a single, but that’s not the point here. If you’re not familiar with “Short Skirt Weather,” here ya go…
With me so far? Good. Now, let’s fast forward to March of 2020, when Florida Georgia Line released a song called “I Love My Country” as the first single from their new EP. If you haven’t heard that yet, give it a listen before we go any further…
If you’re thinking that those two songs sound EXACTLY the same, you’re not alone–in fact, one YouTube user did a mashup of both, and when they’re played on top of one another, it’s hard to tell them apart.
Since “Short Skirt Weather” was released two years earlier, let’s assume that it was also written before “I Love My Country.”
According to songfacts.com, the writers of “Short Skirt Weather are Kane Brown, Chase McGill and Will Weatherly. Wikipedia originally listed the writers of “I Love My Country” as Corey Crowder, Ernest Smith and Charlie Handsome.

A CURRENT Google search of “I Love My Country” now lists Kane Brown, Chase McGill & Will Weatherly as co-writers, along with Corey, Charlie & Ernest.
Did someone else sniff out the similarities between these two songs? Was there some behind-the-scenes legal drama that resulted in Kane, Chase & Will getting writing credit on a song that sounds identical to a song they wrote two years earlier?
