LISTEN: Rascal Flatts’ New Song Is Out Today And It’s NOT What I Was Expecting
Ok, well…that wasn’t what I was expecting.
I got all excited earlier this week, when Rascal Flatts announced that they were releasing a new song. I was all like, “YASSSS, Y’ALL DECIDED NOT TO RETIRE BECAUSE 2020 HAS SUCKED ENOUGH!”
So, first thing this morning, like every other Rascal Flatts superfan, I went to download the song. I wasn’t prepared for an emotional meltdown at 4:45 a.m., but here we are…
It turns out that “How They Remember You” isn’t a comeback at all…rather, it’s a swan song of sorts, from Rascal Flatts to their fans.
“Did you make them laugh, or make them cry? Did you quit, or did you try? When it all comes down, it ain’t if…it’s how they remember you,” Gary, Jay & Joe Don sing in their iconic power ballad style.
Once I realized, “Ohhhh…wait. This is a goodbye song to all of us,” I couldn’t keep from crying.
It didn’t help that the lyric video is full of Rascal Flatts concert footage throughout the years, and having seen them a dozen or more times, it brought back so many great memories.
There is a sliver of good news in this goodbye, though: Rascal Flatts ARE releasing one last EP soon. Although they initially said that they had no plans to record new music, “How They Remember You” is one of seven songs on the project, along with Flatts’ tribute to Kenny Rogers, “Through The Years.”
